I am a theater generalist. I believe that it is important for any theater artist to be well rounded in all areas of the art form. Having experience in both acting and technical theater allows the artist to look at a project as a whole and know how important each of the roles of a production are. I believe that art can be created to inform an audience on current events and issues. While working on a theatrical piece, I always keep in mind what I want the audience to walk away with. I believe that when you go to see a performance you should leave the theater with a new perspective, idea, or thought. Theater should encourage people to start conversations that highlight themes such as systemic racism, the class divide, and issues facing the LGBT+ community. By creating a diverse company, producing a wide variety of content, and writing new works we can begin these conversations.
